How do I deposit a check into my account?We accept personal checks or money orders for deposit to your account. The name(s) on your bank account must match your TD AMERITRADE account title. If you have an individual brokerage account, you can submit a personal check from a joint bank account.
Submit a deposit form with your check:
- Go to Deposit/Withdraw under Portfolio & Accounts.
- Under Select a transaction, click Deposit, then select Check. A new window will open with your deposit slip.
- Choose your deposit type and delivery method, then enter the checks you are depositing.
- Click Print-friendly version to print the form.
- Mail the deposit form and your check(s) to TD AMERITRADE at the address listed on the form. Make checks payable to “TD AMERITRADE, FBO (For Benefit Of) [Your Exact Account Title],” write your account number in the memo line of the check, and include the contribution year if you are making an IRA contribution.
Funds deposited by check:
- Can be used immediately after receipt for trading most marginable securities.
- Can be used to purchase non-marginable securities, initial public offering (IPO) stocks or options* six business days after receipt.
- Can be withdrawn six business days after receipt.
Check deposit guidelines:
- Checks and money orders must be payable in U.S. dollars and through a U.S. bank.
- Personal checks must be drawn from a bank account in an account owner’s name and must include the titles of Jr. or Sr. if applicable.
- Checks from joint checking accounts may be deposited into either checking account owner’s TD AMERITRADE account.
- Checks from an individual checking account may be deposited into a TD AMERITRADE joint account if that person is one of the account owners.
- Cashier’s check with the remitter name, pre-printed by the bank, may be deposited. The remitter name must be the same as an account owner’s name on the TD AMERITRADE account.
- Third party checks (e.g. husband, wife, business, etc.) payable to the TD AMERITRADE account owner and endorsed over to TD AMERITRADE may be deposited. Make the check payable to TD AMERITRADE / FBO (for the benefit of) the TD AMERITRADE account owner and the TD AMERITRADE account number. Example: TD AMERITRADE / FBO Jane Doe xxx-xxxxxx.
- Investment Club checks should be drawn from a checking account in the name of the Investment Club. If a member of the Investment Club remits a personal check, the check must be payable to TD AMERITRADE / FBO the Investment Club name and TD AMERITRADE account number.
- Checks from your TD AMERITRADE account cannot be used to fund another TD AMERITRADE account.
